Make A Wish Come True

Posted: January 10, 2018

One year and one day ago Alyssa Maiorana had surgery for thyroid cancer. Her thyroid was removed. She was injected with a radioactive dye and had to be isolated for a week prior to her surgery. Scary stuff. Aaron’s Dive Shop loves to work with the Make a Wish Foundation.  Alyssa’s wish included Scuba Diving in Hawaii!

Instructor’s Jake and Ed had the privilege of helping Alyssa, Tracey, Joe, Joseph and Ashley Discover Scuba Diving. Discover Scuba is a way to try scuba diving without committing to a class to become certified.

It was clear from the start that Alyssa was ready for the challenge. She had already faced greater challenges this year! She took to the water like someone born to dive. Her sister and brother took a little longer to get comfortable. By the second dive Dad and kids had an amazing time at Turtle Canyons. The first dive was Koko Craters where everyone saw 4 Honu before descending! Alyssa and Dad toured the back crater seeing many Honu, Eels, and beautiful reef fish. At Turtle Canyons a small Honu came up to the mooring line and took a breath five feet from all our divers just before their descent. It was a wonderful moment providing an unforgettable memory. The tour led by Jake was awesome as all four of our divers grew in comfort during a nearly 30 minute dive.

Conditions were like a wish come true. Crazy good visibility and almost no current. pretty perfect winter diving conditions.

Also on the boat today was Madison who completed her Open Water certification with Instructor Patrick. Congratulations Madison! Michaela and Ryan rounded out the divers. Captain Garrett was assisted by Amanda.

It was a full boat, a great time, and a wish come true. Mahalo to the Make A Wish Foundation for partnering with Aaron’s Dive Shop.
