The Discover Scuba Diving Experience is a once in a life-time experience! Scuba diving for the first time is absolutely priceless – and for some can be life changing.
If you want to try scuba diving, but aren’t quite ready to take the plunge into a certification course, our Discover Scuba Diving experience is for you. This experience is led by PADI Scuba Diving Instructors and follows PADI Standards and Curriculum. PADI (Professional Association of Diving Instructors) is the world’s largest association of Diving Professionals and the leader in Diving Standards and Curriculum. Aarons is proud to be a PADI Five-Star Instructor Development Center.
What you EXPERIENCE
You will learn the basic safety guidelines and skills needed to scuba dive under the direct supervision of your PADI Instructor. After a short boat ride, divers (Discover Scuba Diving students) will jump in and practice scuba skills on the surface on the water one-on-one with your instructor to prepare for your adventure.
Once all divers have practiced their skills – you will be ready to try scuba diving! Divers will be led by a scuba instructor on two dives through gorgeous blue Hawaiian waters.
With a short break on the boat between the dives, take in the beautiful surrounding mountains and craters, like Diamond Head and Koko Head.
After your short break, jump back in for another exciting scuba diving experience!
What you see
On Mondays through Saturdays, we can almost guarantee that you will get to scuba dive with turtles and maybe even get your picture taken with one. (On Sunday’s – due to state regulations – we go to different dive sites where we often see turtles but it’s not as certain.)
Our Instructors will point out sea creatures big and small like monk seals, turtles, dolphins, fish, eels, octopus, sharks, nudibranch and much much more as you are led on your two scuba tours. Scuba divers will also see amazing reef fish (many are endemic to Hawaii – meaning they can ONLY be found in Hawaiian waters) and lovely coral.
With the ocean – the possibilities are ENDLESS!

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Yes! That is the short answer. The long answer is there are a few minimum requirements for scuba diving – whether you have done it before or not.
You must be at least 10 years old and you MUST be able to swim!
You must also be physically fit – see “Diver Medical Questionnaire” tab in orange on the bottom right hand corner of your screen. This Medical Questionnaire is required before diving.
This is not a class. It is a Discover Scuba Diving Experience. It is a fantastic way to dip your toe into the world of scuba diving under the direct supervision of a scuba instructor. Typically, we recommend you do a Discover Scuba Diving Experience before committing to taking a course to become certified.
The Discover Scuba Diving Experience is a once in a life-time experience. Scuba diving for the first time is absolutely priceless – and for some can be life changing.
The entire experience will be about 3-4 hours. It will start by meeting at the boat in Hawaii Kai. We will have all of your gear waiting for you at the boat – and it will be the right fit just for you because we base it off of your height, weight & shoe size. You will meet the captain, crew and your scuba instructor. Each charter – just like each diver – is different. You will go through your Discover Scuba Diving booklet with your instructor, which will give you great information about diving, you will fill out a medical questionnaire and you will take a short Diving Knowledge & Safety Review. All of this will happen before even touching the water.
The captain will brief the whole boat about safety practices and procedures once on board. You will also need to fill out a boat waiver – which can be filled out from your confirmation email you receive after booking.
Once you are at the dive site, the fun begins! Your instructor will work with you one on one going over the gear, scuba skills and boat/scuba procedures. Then, one on one, you will practice the skills and procedures on the surface of the water until you feel comfortable. After you are confident in your gear and skills, it is time to explore! With your instructor by your side, you will get the opportunity to experience Hawaii to the fullest extent alongside the turtles, fish and other sea critters.
Great question! Scuba diving is first and foremost about safety and secondarily about fun – because it is no fun if you aren’t being safe. People who are physically fit and in good health are the ideal divers.
That being said, there is a PADI medical questionnaire that you must fill out before diving as a Discover Scuba Diver. This Medical Questionnaire is visible on the right hand corner of this webpage as an orange tab but will need to be filled out at the boat. If you say yes to any of the questions on the medical questionnaire, you will need a doctors note to dive. You will NOT be allowed to dive without a doctor’s note of approval if you have a yes on your Medical Questionnaire.
If you are on vacation and aren’t able to get a note from your regular doctor, don’t worry. You can go to Doctor’s On Call or another on-island doctor to be cleared for diving, which depending on what your ‘yes’ is for could take as little as 15 minutes.
The Medical Questionnaire is here to keep you safe. We understand that the extra step of getting a doctor’s note can be tedious but it is in your best interest. We appreciate your understanding.
If you make more than one open water dive on the same day; or, dive over two or more days, wait 18 hours prior to flying. (PADI Discover Scuba Diving Booklet, 2013).
