Try Scuba Diving in HAWAII!

The Discover Scuba Diving Experience is a once in a life-time experience! Scuba diving for the first time is absolutely priceless – and for some can be life changing.

If you want to try scuba diving, but aren’t quite ready to take the plunge into a certification course, our PADI Discover Scuba Diving experience is for you! This experience is led by PADI Scuba Diving Instructor and follows PADI Standards and Curriculum. PADI (Professional Association of Diving Instructors) is the world’s largest association of Diving Professionals and the leader in Diving Standards and Curriculum.

Aaron's Dive Shop is proud to be a PADI Five-Star Instructor Development Center (IDC)!

WHAT YOU EXPERIENCE:

You will learn the basic safety guidelines and skills needed to scuba dive under the direct supervision of your PADI Instructor. After a short boat ride, divers (Discover Scuba Diving students) will jump in and practice their scuba diving skills on the surface on the water one-on-one with the instructor to prepare for their adventure.

Once all divers have practiced their skills – you will be ready to try scuba diving! Divers will be led by a PADI scuba instructor on two dives through gorgeous blue Hawaiian waters along lively reef systems.

With a short break on the boat between the dives, take in the beautiful surrounding mountains and craters, like Diamond Head, Koko Head and Hanauma Bay ridge.

WHAT YOU SEE:

TURTLES! TURTLES! TURTLES!

On Mondays through Saturdays, you will likely get to scuba dive with turtles! (On Sunday’s – due to state regulations – we go to different dive sites where we often see turtles but it’s not as certain.)

Our Instructors will point out sea creatures big and small like monk seals, turtles, dolphins, fish, nudibranch and much much more as you are led on your two scuba tours. Scuba divers will see amazing reef fish (many are endemic to Hawaii – meaning they can ONLY be found in Hawaiian waters) and lovely coral.

With the ocean – the possibilities are ENDLESS!

WHAT AARON'S PROVIDES:

You will need to wear a bathing suit and bring a towel if you like. Aaron’s provides everything else you need. We provide a wetsuit, mask, snorkel, fins and all the Scuba Gear you will use for your two dives. All gear will be waiting for you at the boat! And don’t worry about fit – the gear we provide is based it off of your height, weight & shoe size so you get the best fit.

We use small boats for a personal experience. You won’t wonder if our Instructor is attentive to your needs. We care about your experience and want to ensure that it is amazing. Scuba diving is our passion and we love introducing people to the underwater world.

Come try scuba diving with us! You can read more about our history here.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW BEFORE BOOKING

As Discover Scuba Divers, you will have to fill out a brief medical waiver before diving.
This waiver will determine if you are fit to dive. This is for your safety.

Click the button below to preview the medical questions you will have to answer at the boat.

WHY AARON'S?

Aaron’s is the oldest dive shop in Hawaii. We’ve been around since 1971 and have a great reputation!

"Wonderful dive shop with even better staff. Very friendly and willing to answer all my questions... Went on the 10:30 dive with my girlfriend who had never been before on a discovery dive. As far as first time experiences go this shop is excellent at providing proper gear and training to make a discovery dive experience truly wonderful... For first time divers their staff is excellent and their prices are much better than what I paid when I did my first discovery dive years ago. I definitely plan on returning and continuing working with Aaron’s in the future."

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Yes! The Discover Scuba Diving Experience is made for scuba diving beginners. That is the short answer. The long answer is there are a few minimum requirements for scuba diving – whether you have done it before or not.

You must be at least 10 years old and you MUST be able to swim!

You must also be physically fit – see the orange “Digital Medical Waiver” button above. This Medical Questionnaire is required before diving. You will have to fill this out at the boat.

This is not a class. It is a Discover Scuba Diving Experience. It is a fantastic way to try scuba diving in Oahu with a certification and dip your toe into the world of scuba diving under the direct supervision of a scuba instructor. Typically, we recommend you do a Discover Scuba Diving Experience before committing to taking a course to become certified.

The Discover Scuba Diving Experience is a once in a life-time experience. Scuba diving for the first time is absolutely priceless – and for some can be life changing.

The entire experience will be about 3-4 hours. It will start by meeting at the boat in Hawaii Kai. We will have all of your gear waiting for you at the boat – and it will be the right fit just for you because we base it off of your height, weight & shoe size. You will meet the captain, crew and your scuba instructor. Each charter – just like each diver – is different. You will go through your Discover Scuba Diving booklet with your instructor, which will give you great information about diving, you will fill out a medical questionnaire and you will take a short Diving Knowledge & Safety Review. All of this will happen before even touching the water.

The captain will brief the whole boat about safety practices and procedures once on board. You will also need to fill out a boat waiver – which can be filled out from your confirmation email you receive after booking.

Once you are at the dive site, the fun begins! Your instructor will work with you one on one going over the gear, scuba skills and boat/scuba procedures. Then, one on one, you will practice the skills and procedures on the surface of the water until you feel comfortable. After you are confident in your gear and skills, it is time to explore! With your instructor by your side, you will get the opportunity to experience Hawaii to the fullest extent alongside the turtles, fish and other sea critters.

Great question! Scuba diving is first and foremost about safety and secondarily about fun – because it is no fun if you aren’t being safe. People who are physically fit and in good health are the ideal divers.

That being said, there is a PADI medical questionnaire that you must fill out before diving as a Discover Scuba Diver. This Medical Questionnaire is visible by clicking on the orange button above labeled “Digital Medical Waiver”. If you say yes to any of the questions on the medical questionnaire, you will need a doctors note to dive. You will NOT be allowed to dive without a doctor’s note of approval if you have a yes on your Medical Questionnaire.

If you are on vacation and aren’t able to get a note from your regular doctor, don’t worry. You can go to Doctor’s On Call or another on-island doctor to be cleared for diving, which depending on what your ‘yes’ is for could take as little as 15 minutes.

The Medical Questionnaire is here to keep you safe. We understand that the extra step of getting a doctor’s note can be tedious but it is in your best interest. We appreciate your understanding.

If you make more than one open water dive on the same day; or, dive over two or more days, wait 18 hours prior to flying. (PADI Discover Scuba Diving Booklet, 2013).
